Message from Mr. Bernard Chan, GBS, JP

For many years I have had a great respect for the Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong, so I regard it as a real honour for me to be appointed as patron of the Association. Since it was founded in 1973, the Association has made a vital contribution to the development of high business standards among life insurance practitioners in Hong Kong. The LUAHK continues to play a valuable role in maintaining and enhancing the profession’s standards and therefore, consumer confidence in life insurance. This in turn helps to guarantee the future growth and success of the industry in Hong Kong.

The market for life insurance products does not stand still. More and more people understand the importance of long-term financial planning, and many clients are becoming interested in new, more sophisticated products. These trends are likely to continue. We will therefore see growing prospects for life insurance professionals who can upgrade their knowledge of life insurance and develop their customer relations skills. The need for skills and training will change, the market will expand in new ways in Hong Kong, and of course the industry will face new opportunities in the Mainland. As patron, I look forward to seeing the LUAHK continue to develop its role in the years ahead.
